„Voice Box‟ ist eine Lektüre-Performance über die Materialität des Stimmklangs. Inspiriert durch den ersten Gesangslehrer, der ihm erzählte, wie Caruso mit seinem hohen Es Kristallglas zerspringen ließ, geht Damian Rebgetz der Frage nach: „Wie wäre es, mit dem Klang der eigenen Stimme Objekte zu bewegen, Körper und Gebäude?“ In Comics bezeichnet man die Fähigkeit, mit Hilfe übermenschlicher Stimmoszillationen zu fliegen, zu explodieren, andere zu retten oder zu verstümmeln, als „Sonic Scream“. Rebgetz kombiniert in „Voice Box“ die Ergebnisse seiner Recherche mit seiner eigenen Biographie als Vorstadtjungen-Sopran und präsentiert seine Versuche, ein Sonic Superhero zu werden.
„Voice Box‟ ist beides, Meditation über die Unsichtbarkeit des Stimmklangs in einer visuell ausgerichteten Kultur wie Hommage an das von einem Gesangslehrer geschaffene klangbasierte Universum. Fiktive, biographische und wissenschaftliche Erzählungen sind verwoben mit akustischen Bühnenexperimenten in einem Mehrkanal-Audiokonzert. Die „Voice Box“ wird erkundet als ein Geschichten erzählendes Medium, ein Musikinstrument und eine posthumane Waffe der Klangmaterialität.

VOICE BOX is a lecture performance on the materiality of vocal sound. Inspired by his first singing teacher’s description of Enrico Caruso’s ability to smash crystal with his tenor high Es, Damian Rebgetz asks ‘How would it be to move objects, bodies and buildings with the sound of your voice?’ He discovers that in comics such a phenomenon – the ability to fly, detonate, rescue and maim via superhuman vocal oscillations – is given the name sonic scream. In VOICE BOX Rebgetz combines the findings of his research with his own biography as a suburban boy soprano and performs his own attempts at becoming a sonic superhero.
VOICE BOX is both a meditation on the invisibility of vocal sound in a visually-orientated culture and a homage to the sound-based universe created by a singing teacher. Fictional, biographical and scientific narratives are interwoven with staged acoustic experiments in a muli-channel audio concert. The voice box is explored as a storytelling medium, a musical instrument, and a post human weapon of sonic materiality.

In verschiedenen Musiktheaterprojekten verwendet SSP Feldforschung und Performance, um die Produktion und Wahrnehmung von Stimmklängen in fiktiven oder öffentlichen Räumen zu erkunden.

Damian Rebgetz (Australien) schloss 2010 seinen Master in Sound Studies an der UdK Berlin ab und erhielt anschließend ein Graduierten-Stipendium. Als Performer ist er im Hebbel Theater Berlin („Unendlicher Spaß“, „Hotel Savoy“) und bei den Wiener Festwochen („Gang zum Patentamt“) aufgetreten. Zu seinen eigenen Arbeiten zählen „Headvoice“ (Berg 26), „To cross the house“ (HKW Berlin).

Thomas Koch studierte und arbeitete in unterschiedlichen Formen und Kontexten mit Klang, angefangen mit einem Musikstudium über Musikproduktion und Soundtechnologie bis hin zu Forschungen in Raumakustik und Digitalen Medientechnologien. Sein besonderes Interesse gilt dem Einsatz moderner Audiotechnologie, wie etwa Wellenfeldsynthese, in künstlerischen Projekten.

Jessica Páez studierte Kommunikationswissenschaft an der Freien Universität Berlin. Seit 2012 ist sie Produktionsleiterin und dramaturgische Mitarbeiterin des von Christoph Gurk kuratierten Musikprogramms im Hebbel am Ufer Berlin. Sie assistierte am HAU Bettina Blümner und Rimini Protokol und war Dramaturgin für Dominic Hubers „Hotel Savoy“.

Alexander Sieber, geboren in Dresden, studierte Sound Studies an der UdK Berlin. Seine Arbeiten umfassen Klanginstallationen und Klangobjekte ebenso wie Musik und Klangkompositionen für zeitgenössischen Tanz und Theater. Nähere Informationen unter hoerfelder.de.

In various music theater projects SSP use field research and performance to explore the production and perception of vocal sound in fictional and/or public spaces.

Damian Rebgetz (Australia) completed the MA Sound Studies at the UdK Berlin in 2010 and was awarded a graduate scholarship. As a performer he has appeared at Hebbel Theater Berlin (Unendliche Spaß, Hotel Savoy) and Wienner Festwochen (Gang zum Patentamt). His own works include Headvoice (Berg 26); To cross the house (HKW Berlin).

Thomas Koch has studied and worked in various capacities with sound. From music studies and production via sound technologies through to research in spatial acoustics and digital media technologies. His particular interest is the application of modern audio technologies, for instance Wave Field Synthesis, in artistic projects.

Jessica Páez majored in Communication Studies at the Freien University of Berlin. Since 2012 she has been the production head and worked in dramaturgy at the music program curated by Christoph Gurk at the Hebbel am Ufer theater in Berlin. At HAU she also assisted Bettina Blümner and Rimini Protokol and did dramaturgy for Dominic Hübers “Hotel Savoy”.

Alexander Sieber was born in Dresden. He studied at the UdK Sound Studies – Acoustic Communication. His works include sound installations and sound objects as well as music and sound composition for contemporary dance and theatre. Detailed information of his works can be found at hoerfelder.de
